Shaping the Future of Pharmaceutical Microbiology

An interview with microbiologist Laurie Boyd about why the annual QC Micro Summit remains a must-see event for the industry

The QC Micro Summit has built a reputation as one of the most impactful events in pharmaceutical microbiology. It’s intimate enough to spark real dialogue, structured to deliver practical insights, and designed to shape tomorrow’s leaders. What started as a hands-on workshop has grown into a hub for thought leadership and collaboration.

To explore this evolution, we spoke with Laurie Boyd—a returning speaker, former attendee, and member of our Scientific Advisory Committee—about why this event continues to stand out and what makes QC Micro Summit 2026 worth attending year after year.

What does the QC Micro Summit mean to you, and what has kept you coming back over the years?

Laurie: The QC Micro Summit has played a pivotal role in my career development. Over the years, participating in this event has provided me with valuable information that has significantly enhanced my industry knowledge. Beyond the educational aspect, the Summit offered a unique environment for networking. Its intimate setting allowed for meaningful one-on-one interactions which built professional relationships with both attendees and speakers. This enabled me to ask in-depth questions and engage in discussions that are often not possible at larger conferences.

You’ve played a key role on the Scientific Advisory Committee. How has that experience shaped your perspective on the event?

Laurie: Being invited to join the Scientific Advisory Committee was truly an honor. This role allowed me to contribute perspectives and ideas that I found valuable, both as someone new to the industry and as an experienced professional. By sharing these insights, I believe I helped create a more well-rounded and informative conference for all participants.

What inspired you to return as a speaker for the 2026 Summit?

Laurie: Throughout my career in pharmaceutical microbiology, I have been deeply committed to sharing the knowledge and expertise I have gained. I firmly believe that patients deserve the highest quality products, and by openly sharing my insights and experiences, I can help elevate standards across the industry. Speaking at events like the QC Micro Summit allows me to reach a broader audience, ensuring that more professionals have access to the information and best practices that ultimately benefit patients. The opportunity to contribute in this way is both meaningful to me and impactful for the industry as a whole.

What will you be presenting on this year?

Laurie: This year’s presentation holds special significance for me, as it provides an opportunity to illustrate how a career in pharmaceutical microbiology can extend its influence far beyond the laboratory. I will be focusing on how the contributions made outside of hands-on bench work can drive significant advancements within the industry and, ultimately, benefit patients.
Throughout my own professional journey, I have seen firsthand how embracing roles and responsibilities beyond traditional laboratory work can greatly accelerate career progression. By leveraging expertise to impact broader organizational goals and patient outcomes, professionals can find new avenues for growth and make a meaningful difference in the field.

What are you most looking forward to at the 2026 Summit?

Laurie: The opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and cultivate new professional relationships through networking. I am also eager to learn from the latest information presented at the event, which will help me further expand my knowledge and stay current in the field.

What do you hope attendees will take away from participating in this year’s event?

Laurie: I hope that attendees leave this year’s event having established valuable new professional connections. Building these relationships is essential for fostering collaboration and sharing best practices across the industry. In addition, I want participants to gain new knowledge they can bring back to their respective organizations. By implementing what they learn at the Summit, professionals will be better equipped to enhance the quality of the products their businesses create, ultimately benefiting the patients we all serve.
