Laboratory Services Expansion in Edinburgh
As part of an ongoing expansion plan, Charles River’s laboratory services have extended in both capacity and capability in Edinburgh with the addition of a new location, Clearwater House. Located on the Heriot-Watt University campus, this facility is ideally located close to Edinburgh Airport, supporting quick sample receipt and turnaround times.
The new addition to Charles River’s existing 485,000 sq ft facilities in Tranent, Edinburgh brings an additional 35,000 sq ft of laboratory space, which can accommodate up to 120 scientists.
This laboratory service expansion is essential to support additional new purpose-built research facilities which are already in progress at Charles River’s Tranent site, due for completion in September 2022.
Growing Demand for Laboratory Services
Demand for laboratory science services has been growing throughout the pandemic and, to ensure that Charles River can continue to service clients in the pharmaceutical market, amongst others, it is essential to keep developing capacity and capabilities.
By offering pre-clinical and clinical laboratory services under one roof, clients can reduce the number of outsourcing partners required as their molecule moves through the development process.
Large Molecule Bioanalysis, Biomarkers, and Immunogenicity Services
The new site includes laboratory space equipped with state-of-the-art technology and automation. Currently, it houses a team of 60 skilled scientists dedicated to large molecule bioanalysis, biomarker, and immunogenicity laboratory services. This rapidly growing team is gaining an excellent reputation in the development and validation of new methods to support sample analysis for regulated (GLP, GCP) and non-regulated laboratory services. Experience covers a broad range of modalities (e.g., antibodies, CAR-T, ASOs, miRNAs, viral vectors).
