Matt Hewitt

Matt is a Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of the Manufacturing Business Division. He is also a member of Charles River's Scientific Advisory Board. A leader in the cell and gene therapy field, Matt joined Charles River in 2021 as a Scientific Director, Scientific Solutions in its C&GT space. Prior to this Matt worked at Lonza, where he led Clinical Development for the company's Personalized Medicine business. Matt has also held positions at Bellicum Pharmaceuticals, where he built and led the Tumor Immunology and Microenvironment program focused on increasing cell therapy efficacy, and the University of Pennsylvania, where he was Associate Director of their Immunology Core, C&GT Program. He also worked at Galleon Pharmaceuticals as a Senior Scientist. Matt earned a PhD in physiology/immunology from the University of Alabama-Birmingham and did his post-doctoral training at Johns Hopkins, where he focused on neural control of airway diseases. He currently is a Board Member at the Coriell Institute for Medical Research.
