Rat Model of CFA-Induced Arthritis for Studying Anti-Inflammatory Pain Drugs
The complete Freund’s adjuvant (CFA)-induced arthritic rat model is well characterized in literature and is routinely used for screening novel compounds targeted for inflammatory pain, including osteoarthritis pain. Peripheral tissue injury followed by intraplantar injection of CFA usually results in increased sensitivity to noxious heat as well as heightened sensitivity to mechanical tactile stimulation.
CFA-induced Arthritis Rat Model Study Data
Charles River conducts contract studies in the CFA-induced rat model of arthritis to screen compounds against heat hyperalgesia (as measured by the Hargreaves method) and tactile allodynia (as measured by manual von Frey filaments).
