Efficacy and safety assessments requires blood collection from study animals to gather data on the effects of a drug compound. For bioanalytical evaluation, the microsampling technique refines blood collection and uses a very small amount of blood (typically ≤ 50 µL) to assess whether a drug compound is safe and effective. Consequently, this technique eliminates the need for satellite animals and lessens the level of stress on those animals that have to be used.

Capillary microsampling has been successfully applied across Charles River in the collection and analysis of large and small molecule bioanalytical samples.
